MochaPro - Planar Tracking of Cheek
Nuke - Compositing
Description
To make this effect believable I started with a fresh piece of raw meat that I found on the internet. Click on the pictures to view a larger image.

The next task was to stick that piece of meat to the face, which required tracking its movement through the shot. Even though the face is a complex 3D surface, I approximated it as a 2D plane. I carried out the task in Mocha, and then I exported the tracking information into Nuke.

Once the meat was attached to the face, I created a mask that looked like scratch marks.

To make the scratch marks more believable, I drew shadows onto the meat to give it some depth.

When skin is scratched, the surrounding skin immediately gets irritated. So I added some bruising.

And then some rash.

The final touch was the black eye. I found this image on the internet.

I removed the black eye, flipped it, moved it, color corrected it, and overlayed onto the footage. I used smart vector tracking to warp the eye according to the pixel movement.
